Karimoku New Standard Previews Collection At Salone Del Mobile

Karimoku New Standard is a Japanese furniture company that specializes in wood furniture. Started in 2009, they aim to preserve Japanese forests and restore a balance between supply and demand. All their products are made with sustainably sourced Japanese wood, including wood pieces that are discarded or turned into paper pulp. This year, at Salone del Mobile, they previewed new pieces that are soon to be added to the collection.

They worked with Scholten and Baijings to add the Colour Wood Chair to their iconic Colour Wood Table collection. Both challenge traditional ideas of carpentry, and with the chair, different laths of oak wood are assembled to form a chair without any obvious fixtures. It comes as a side chair and arm chair, and is upholstered to provide maximum comfort.

Christian Haas worked on the Elephant Sofa, a simple yet stunning sofa with soft curves inviting the user to sit. Despite its simple appearance, it’s in the details where it really shines. With carved wood feet and an intriguing wool texture, the sofa offers timeless comfort.

Christian also designed the Scout Bistro Table, an addition to his Scout Series for Karimoku. The bistro table has a minimal yet elegant appearance and fits any chair. It’s ideal for small spaces, and comes in two different heights — dining table height and a lower version that makes it suitable to act as a side table as well.

Big-Game designed the Castor Arm Chair and Bar Stool for Karimoku. The Castor series is already a popular series for Karimoku, and Big-Game created a new, updated version of the Castor chair with the Arm Chair. Both pieces embody Big-Game’s use of modern technology and handcrafted finishes to create classic pieces that match any space.
